Irina Mohorianu

BSc (Hons) in Computer Science, PhD in Bioinformatics (Computer Science)

Bioinformatics Lead

Irina has a BSc in Computing Sciences and obtained her PhD in Computing Sciences (Bioinformatics) from the University of East Anglia, UK in 2012. During the PhD and later as a post-doc she developed methods and algorithms for the analysis of high-throughput coding and non-coding sequencing datasets such as quality checking, noise identification and normalization for mRNA-seq and sRNA-seq data (the algorithms are included in the UEA sRNA Workbench), fast identification of general sRNA loci (CoLIde) and a new method for the detection of miRNA loci/hairpins (miRCat2).

Irina joined the Oxford Vaccine Group in October 2017 to apply and develop new bioinformatics methods for the analysis of large multivariate sequencing datasets from human studies of bacterial and viral infections. Her aim is to characterize the signatures of different diseases and the host-pathogen interplay throughout the infection, in the presence or absence of vaccine protection.
